Pine needle covered single track, grassy cross country ski trail and packed dirt two track await participants in the 2015 Iola Trail Run. The trails are in the best condition since this event was founded in 2011. A preview slide show(link) is now available for viewing. The previous two years featured snow covered trails which harbored their own beauty but also presented challenging running conditions. This year the event was moved forward a few weeks on the calendar to ensure dryer conditions. The forested single track sections will be back this year and are in tremendous condition. The runner experience will not only be scenic but will feature transitions from fast wide open ski trail to dance quality single track and then back again. The Iola Winter Sports Club is located in classic glaciated terrain, five miles north of the village of Iola. The Ice Age Trail winds through the venue and it is included in the race course. The ski trails blend elegantly into the moraines and are sheltered by towering white pines, hemlocks and tamaracks. The trail runner will experience this as a super scenic yet challenging course that favors strength and agility as well as endurance. Once again the top three in each age group will win one pound blocks of Oak Grove Diary Cheese, a small traditional cheese house that sources its milk from only three family farms. This event benefits youth skiing at the Iola Winter Sport Club.
