The 20K took runners by seven lakes.  It was one of the more intimate of GLE’s races with seventy two trail runners from eight states including California and New York taking the opportunity to tour the private trail system.   Photos(link) and complete results(link) are now available.  Kate Pallardy of New York, NY took it out fast and held on to win the women’s 20K (the course was actually 12.71 miles)  by nearly five minutes in 1:32:45.  Carolyn Warren of Ironwood, MI demonstrated her Yooper single track skill, finishing second (1:37:07).  Enjoying the low altitude racing environment, Lauren Eckert of Mt. Shasta, CA finished a strong 3rd in 1:43:49.  Andy Warren of Ironwood, MI dominated the men’s 20K, winning the event by nearly eight minutes in 1:22:40.  Ryan Towles, a GLE veteran from Dollar Bay, cruised to second place in 1:30:35.  Towles recalled the early days of GLE where courses were minimally marked, “This was a well marked course - easy to follow.”  Nathan Ellis of Paducah, KY traveled north looking for some challenging Northwoods single track, enjoying every step while finishing third in 1:31:46. April Hanson, a former 5:06 miler from Clintonville, WI, was visiting the family cottage in nearby Watersmeet and decided to give the 5K at try.  She found success, winning the 5K (actually 3.7 miles) in 28:22.  Christy Damon of Geneva, IL toured the course in 30:37, good for second place.  Third place was secured by Kim Schlei of Waukesha, WI who crossed the line in  35:37.  The men’s 5K found Merrill,WI’s Dave Dalman out front in 27:22, winning by over three minutes.  John Wilke, former XC coach at Phillips, WI, inspired runners decades younger, finishing second overall and first in the 60-65 age group (30:53).  Thomas Dreger of Appleton, WI rounded out the top three in the men’s 5K (33:16). Overall winners in the 20K received Patagonia Trail Running Shoes(link).  Gear from Race Ready(link) and Greenlayer(link) was awarded to the 5K winners.  The top three runners in each age group for both races received Maas Farms (Tilleda, WI) Maple Syrup.  The Conserve School(link) is a private academy that prepares students to be leaders in environmental stewardship.
